About Me
Hello, my name is Linh Ta and I'm a reporter at the Des Moines Register.
Journalism is my passion. Whether it's through print, broadcast or digital, I enjoy the adrenaline of running out to a breaking news story or speaking with people in the community about issues pertinent to them.
I work as a communities reporter at the Register. My duties include covering the Ankeny, Johnston and Urbandale areas, along with an occasional breaking news or caucus story. I focus on city government, school districts and everyday life within these communities. My recent work can be found here.
I previously interned and freelanced at the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier, a daily newspaper in northeast Iowa. As a full-time reporter/intern, I worked in a fast-paced environment with stories ranging from breaking news to features, politics, business and metro stories from around the area.
Additionally, I served as a staff writer for IowaWatch, a non-profit investigative firm for the Center of Investigative Journalism in Iowa. I've collaborated on stories with other writers and I also wrote an enterprise story that was published statewide regarding difficulties military students face when applying for G.I. Bill benefits.
So far, my work has been featured in the Des Moines Register, Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier, the Cedar Rapids Gazette, Iowa City Press-Citizen, Mason City Globe Gazette, Sioux City Journal, the Huffington Post, the Advocate, the Daily Mail and Telemundo.
In my free time, I enjoy bicycling through downtown Des Moines, reading about Iowa politics and filming B-grade horror films with friends. I'm extremely passionate about Iowa and feel grateful to serve as a journalist in the state.
Feel free to contact me at [email protected] for any questions or comments.
Best,
Linh
